Are Mothers Aware of 3-5 years old Child’s Activities?

By now your child should acquire the fundamental talents and have reached a critical stage in life. Isn’t it fascinating to see how your child grows physically as well as mentally trying new things and winning challenges with your help, love and protection?

When a child reaches the age of 2 you’ll notice that he is able to run without falling and climb up and down in a stair. He will find this entertaining and will try to climb the stairs without falling which he will succeed thanks to the love and affection you gave your child as a parent. And also thanks to the courage you’ve given him saying ‘Hapan putha hapan’ every time he falls on the ground and rises up to walk again.

When he climbs stairs, he will learn how to balance body weight on both legs which will lead him to learn how to stand up on one leg and then to hop. To give children more opportunities to practice such skills traditional games such as Kotu Penima(Chakkara Penima) and Ahas Yathra Penima can be introduced to the kid in order to promote the concept of playing together and waiting until his turn comes. With such games, the child will learn various activities he needs to get good at while receiving a joy that will truly contribute to the further improvement in his abilities and skills through spiritual coexistence.

During the age of 3 years, the child will start to speak well. The more supportive groups the child has around him the better he will be able to talk. Parents, siblings, neighbors, preschool teachers and preschool friends are a few support groups a child could have. Interactions with such groups will help him grasp more words on his own and as a group. This will improve the process of development of the brain. By learning terms and phrases related to numbers, the child will learn how to count. Also, interactions with such support groups will be an effective step forward towards speaking complete sentences.

In addition, you can get your child involved in household activities and take him to different places such as to the temple or church, market, bank, hospital and post office so he will gain knowledge about different social levels in the society. During such visits, the child will get the chance to talk and interact with different people and observe the transactions takes place in each place, see how the decisions are made and learn different words used in different places. These experiences will help him in the thinking process to think analytically and experiment in life.

As a parent, it’s your duty to protect and take care of your child without being a disturbance to his learning experiences. It is also important to listen carefully to what your child asks you about the new words he is learning and the experiences to quench his curiosity and provide him with correct answers. These answers will help his psycho-social development.

Another thing your child will be able to perform at this age is to comfortably hold a pen. So, it’s important that parents let him draw and copy pictures as he wishes without any force. With this, the child will learn to identify different images, pictures and colours. By teaching him different shapes and colours you’ll help him identify each of them and talk about them easily.

Eg- Moon, circles, square, soapbox

Black head, white teeth, green parrot

Another thing a child will start to notice during this age is differences between raw and ripe fruits. At this point, his ability in mathematics will be at an impressive level. Also, the child will gain the ability to use a pair of scissors and separate shapes according to the targets given.

By providing the child with opportunities to pick up their toys and put them in assigned places will build habits. This will also help the child identify toys from one another which will also contribute to the improvement of his basic mathematical knowledge as the child will start to count than just noticing the colours, shapes, smells and textures of toys during this task. Therefore, he will learn to count as one, two and three. With this, a better mental concentration will be developed allowing the child to gain a broad psycho-social development.

Small children’s minds are filled with imaginary thoughts at this age, so they can build stories incorporating images and characters easily. Such story building activities will improve their ability to match each scene of the story to fit the past, present and future. All these small activities and practices will help a child improve his knowledge and skills. Thus, it’s important that the parents provide them with enough and safe opportunities, and an environment to try these activities every time possible.

When the parents praise their kid for such small activities, it will give him the confidence to build and practice sanitary and hygiene habits and more. By praising him for his good acts and showing what’s bad when the child does something wrong, he will learn to identify what’s good and what’s bad and will intend to do more good and avoid bad habits. During this age, a child would be able to choose and wear his clothes on his own. The taste he will develop from it will help him choose his outfits and food and beverages for meals on his own and perform activities such as brushing teeth, washing and bathing and other activities he will try just to follow his parents and teachers.

When a child reaches the age of 3-5 years he will not be interested in engaging in the same task for more than 10 minutes. Yet, by now he’ll have the analytical and critical intelligence to notice and remind if someone skips a step in an activity with several steps which the child has seen doing correctly in the past.

Once a child reaches the age of 5, he will become more social and will not show shyness in social situations, finish what he started and gain the ability to take responsibilities and do things in order. At this age, he will build trust towards the ones who pay attention to him and love him and will tend to collaborate with such people.

Additionally, this is the age that a child learns to identify and use adjectives such as small and big, near and far, black and white meaningfully, sing songs by memory and even to dance. Drawing pictures and naming them clearly such as mother, father, fish and bicycle and learning his name and names of the other family members are also few other abilities a child will gain during this age.

With the child’s experiences in cleanliness, neatness and keeping used equipment and tools in necessary places, he will build habits and will continue to practice them.

The children who have a favorable environment to act and perform the above-mentioned activities will show amazing development in both intelligence and good personal qualities. So, such kids will show colours in school and will win the world with their self-confidence and good attitude which their parents cultivated in them during this age giving the parents a lifelong satisfaction.
